The St. Peter Cemetery is located on Spruill Avenue near the entrance to the former Charleston Naval Base. The original purpose of this cemetery was to provide an appropriate burial site for African-American Catholics and members of their immediate families.
The Cemetery is presently associated with St. Patrick Catholic Church, thus acquiring the name, of St. Peter/St. Patrick Cemetery.
Since 1992, the records have been housed in the office of St. Patrick Catholic Church. Maintenance is under the direction of the church and the Cemetery Association.
Burial on these grounds is open to Catholics and members of their immediate families and certain other persons as defined in the constitution, namely: parishioners, non-parishioners, and non-Catholics.
