Development Coordinator In-Kind Contributions  
· Development Education/Training/Tools – School administrators, board members, faculty, and volunteers must understand the fundamentals of school development.  They must know why a development program is an integral part of the overall management and advancement of a school, and how to implement such a program.  The MAC will provide the education, training, and tools necessary to successfully incorporate school development into their strategic school plan.  This will involve providing useful tools and making presentations at school board meetings and faculty meetings, among other initiatives. 

· Designing a Comprehensive Development Strategy – The MAC will work with school administrators and board members to develop and implement a comprehensive development strategy that is tailored to the needs of their school.  Each school’s program will include some or all of the following:  annual fund, major gifts, planned giving, special events, capital campaign, endowment fund, and enrollment management. 

· Creating a Development Plan – The MAC will help create a written development plan.  This Development Plan is the comprehensive development strategy in a written document with an action plan as its key component.  The action plan section will include goals, objectives, action steps, a time-line for implementation, and accountability for each piece. 

· Board Counsel/Training – A strong school board is critical to the overall success of a school.  The MAC will advise school administrators on how to maximize their board members and will offer a training program for board members so they fully understand their responsibilities as members of the board.

· Development Coordinator – One person needs to be identified as the development coordinator for the school.  This person may be a faculty member or a volunteer.  However, it cannot be the principal.  The MAC will assist school administrators and board members identify the best person and will be available to offer advice on how to manage the overall program. 

· Development Volunteers/Committee – The MAC will help the school organize a committee of development volunteers in a way that encourages and inspires maximum volunteer dedication and satisfaction. 

· Annual Fund – The MAC will help each school implement an annual fund, the heart of a development program.  The MAC will advise on an appropriate goal, realistic timeline, and proper protocol.  The MAC will offer suggestions on how to maintain a donor database with applicable and accurate information.  The MAC will help the development committee draft letters and solicitation materials.  The MAC will offer guidance regarding phone-a-thons and provide volunteer training. 

· Major Gifts – The MAC will work with school administrators and board members to identify and pursue donors with major gift potential.  The MAC will be available for personal visits with volunteers to cultivate relationships and solicit contributions. 

· Planned Giving – The MAC will help implement and market a planned giving program.  The MAC will be available for personal solicitation visits with volunteers. 


· In-Kind Contributions – In-kind contributions can significantly offset school improvement expenses.  The MAC will encourage the schools to pursue in-kind contributions from school constituents. 

· Special Events – The MAC will make recommendations for special events regarding the number of events, financial goals for each event, and ways to maximize the fundraising potential of each event. 

· Capital Campaign – The MAC will counsel in the undertaking of a major capital campaign.  The MAC will help develop a statement of purpose, realistic goal, plan of action for solicitation, and timeline.  The MAC will provide volunteer training.  The MAC will help draft solicitation materials and will be available for personal solicitation visits with volunteers.  The MAC will propose outside fundraising services where appropriate. 

· Endowment Fund – The MAC will help implement a solicitation program for endowment funds.  The MAC will be available for personal solicitation visits with volunteers. 

· Enrollment Management – Enrollment cannot be overlooked when considering a school’s need to increase revenue to improve the bottom line.  The MAC will encourage the review of recruitment efforts, and share ideas to actively recruit new students and maintain favorable enrollment numbers.
