| Parish History St. John Neumann Church had a humble
beginning as the Catholic Community of Northeast Columbia, where we were
originally a mission of the St. Joseph parish. Our first Mass was celebrated
in the E. L. Wright Middle School with just a few families attending.
From that first Sunday morning Mass in February 1977, to what has now
grown to over 1,500 families, a nationally recognized Blue Ribbon School
and a Religious Education program of over 300 children, our parish celebrates
its many blessings. Vision Statement St. John Neumann parish will strive to
become a faith community that both understands and practices responsible
stewardship by developing a recognition among our people that all they have
and all they are is a pure gift from God and He calls them to use these gifts
to build up the Kingdom of Christ. We will continue to work, as we have in
the past, to offer liturgical worship to meet the various needs of the
parish. We will address the Catholic education
of our people through programs for our youth and for adults, including our
senior citizens. We will complement our programs of
education with programs for spiritual growth and development through the
efforts of our Liturgy Committee. We will reach out to those Catholics who
no longer consider themselves part of the Church either because of apathy,
alienation, or because they are not in agreement with the teachings of the
Church. We will work to coordinate our efforts
with other Catholic churches in the Columbia area in making our faith better
understood and we will promote among our own people a better understanding of
other faiths through participation in ecumenical activities. Mission Statement The mission of St. John Neumann parish is
to provide an environment that allows us to experience our oneness with
Christ and with each other, by promoting the Faith, celebrating the sacraments
and providing programs for Catholic education, spiritual renewal and corporal
works of mercy to all people. |
