St. Vincent De Paul Society Celebrates 10'th AnniversaryThe St. Vincent De Paul StoryVolunteers Needed for St. Vincent De Paul SocietyA Story from the Golden Harvest Food Bank Program Annual Report The Society of St. Vincent dePaul Is an international organization of lay persons founded by Frederic Ozanam In 1833. "It is composed of women and men who seek their personal holiness by works of charity. Their principal objective is not the spiritual advancement of their members but the doing of good for someone. THE YEAR IN REVIEWOur conference volunteers have fulfilled the above noted objective and served the needy and poor of the Aiken area during our fiscal year ending September 2003. ASSISTANCE PROVIDED Financial Aid Aid was provided to 465 families for utility (gas, electric and water) services, medications, transportation and other Items totaling over $25,000. FOOD Food was given to 1,461 families; over 4,500 family members were impacted by our food pantry. Almost $16,000 was devoted to this phase of our ministry. When possible, Vincentian volunteers delivered food to many clients who do not have transportation. This opportunity allowed our volunteers to meet and interrelate with clients in their homes. Our ministry actively participates with St. Mary's school in its Food Certificate Program which is mutually beneficial to both us and to St. Mary's school. (1) Manual of the Society HOLIDAY BASKETS Thanksgiving food baskets were given to 107 needy fami1ies this past November. In addition, our Society provided an additional 30+ Christmas baskets to needy families. HISPANIC COMMUNITY We sponsored a Hispanic family in their effort to upgrade a trailer. Funds were provided to purchase construction materials for electric, plumbing and carpentry work performed by St Joseph's Helpers." NEW CLIENTS Volunteers responded to an ever increasing number of client calls, 424 new clients were registered during the past year. Our client base is now over 2,000. CLIENT INFORMATION SYSTEM We are in the process of converting our paper files on 2,000+ clients to a new computer system which is expected to be on-line in 2004. CLIENT CONSULTATION Upon review of client needs, volunteers make referrals to agencies and other ministries that may be able to assist clients with job opportunities, Senior prescription programs, health care services and other available programs. THANK YOU Your continued support in upcoming Sundays --I Care, I Share-- collections will go a long way in helping us fulfill our objective to serve the poor and needy of the Aiken community. Please continue your generous support! God loves the poor, and consequently He loves those who have affection for the poor. For when we love anyone very much we are also His friends and servants. - St Vincent de Paul - What good is it for someone to say that he has faith if his actions do not prove it? - James 2:17 |
