Music Director
The Senior Choir sings beautiful music in support of Church liturgies, in order to inspire and uplift body, mind and soul to God. Information on the Gathering Choir can be found HERE.
The Senior Choir sings at the 10:30 Mass on Sundays, at the Easter Vigil and Christmas Midnight Mass, as well as other special occasions. Music encompasses a wide repertoire drawn from the great literature of Church music, including Medieval chant, polyphonic music of the Renaissance and Baroque periods, classical, modern music and traditional hymns. Music for each liturgy is selected based on the season and the scriptural emphasis of the Mass, and includes the mass parts (Kyrie, Gloria, Psalm, Gospel Alleluia, Memorial Acclamation, Great Amen, Agnus Dei), choir pieces and congregational hymns. The choir rehearses on Wednesday evenings in the church, from 8 PM to about 9 PM, throughout the year. The Music Director is Dr. Maureen Simpson; Phyllis Waters is the organist. Singers comprise soprano, alto, tenor and bass voices. Members are provided folders containing the large repertoire of music. New music is introduced from time to time. New singers are welcome. New singers are afforded ample help and encouragement in learning the music. It is helpful to be able to read music. Those interested should come to a rehearsal, call the music director Maureen Simpson at 803-649-6570 or e-mail her at msimpson98@yahoo.com. |
